About

Catalyst is a solo electronic music project of Mark Brogden (London, U.K.) Influences: Early Genesis; Kraftwerk; Azymuth; Weather Report; electronic sounds of club music in the early 1980s; 1986 Chicago House; 1988 Acid House; Techno & Minimal Tech…. With a fascination of rhythmic and other intrinsic properties of music, Mark closely focused on fine details of timbre and orchestration within tracks, recognising both their importance and impact. The first Catalyst production was ‘The Chamber’, being performed at ‘Knowledge’ night at the SW1 Club, Victoria, London in early 1993. Kiss FM DJ Colin Faver approached Mark after the performance, and released the music on his ‘Rabbit City Records’ (early Aphex Twin / Spiral Tribe / Force Mass Motion …), plus giving it airplay on Kiss FM. It also was played by Sven Vath (Clubnight, Frankfurt 1993-03-06). Biggest track for Catalyst to date is What? / Stare on Platipus, with ‘Stare’ played by John Peel on BBC Radio One, and ‘What?’ released alongside Robert Miles’s ‘Children’ on Platipus. Catalyst remixes include Vangelis’s ‘Chung Kuo’ and Art of Trance ‘Vicious Circles’.
